Far-Ultraviolet Spectra of TT Arietis
Abstract
Spectra of the nova-like variable star TT Arietis were taken with the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer during three consecutive spacecraft orbits. The observations were made in 2004 during an extended high state of the system. The spectra show a combination of broad Lyman and wide high-ionization absorption lines. There is also significant H2 absorption, narrow Lyβ emission, and narrow absorption at the higher Lyman lines. The O VI lines appear to have weak P Cygni profiles. We discuss the spectra and the observed changes that may arise from a hot disk wind.
